In that time, I’ve put more miles on it than I have the on the M3, in the over 4 years I’ve owned it. Little over 31k on each car. M3: 15.7k to 46.7k. 3: 40k to 71.5k.
For those of you wondering why I have two E9Xs, this is one of the main reasons.

Got a guy with a gray 335i E92 in my parking lot. He tries to park next to my M3 and rev his engine if I am around as he’s highly modified it. I am not sure if really enjoy the sound of that 335i with the giant tailpipes.
It isn’t as weird as when I was in Maryland I was walking out to my car and I saw a gray M3 with a black license plate panel
and Florida tags backing up. I thought someone stole my car. Turns out my new computer guy also just moved from Florida and had the exact same taste in cars. He quit about 5 weeks later and returned to Florida...I lasted 2 years.

Well when you type it out like that, it sounds like the M3 kept you from dr iving it.

It doesn’t sound that way to me.

Didn’t you used to rent cars for road trips, to keep miles off of it?
(sorry if wrong person)

Oh, I see what you mean now. When I was unemployed I did rent cars to go to interviews as it was a lot more economical to drive a rental. It was basically the cost of gas alone was more than renting a car and gas.

Do you have a ballpark figure on what you’ve spent on the M3 in 31k miles? I had my E90 for 18 months and just under 20k miles. I spent almost 7k (repairs and wear items). This includes 6 Pilot super sport tires, so there is that... Still a lot in 20k miles.

Probably around 10k maintaining it, including tires. Paying it off cost me 54k, including taxes and interest. Registering it in two states after that has cost me right around 3k.

That’s not terrible (figuring around $215/month for your M3). Mine was more like $400/month, plus whatever I got beat for when I traded it in. Admittedly I did pretty well on trade, better than I have ever before anyway.
My E46 has cost me just short of $18000 over nearly 12 years and 66k miles. That includes a lot of tires, two sets of wheels and the most expensive short throw shifter ever.

It’s expensive to drive. I have been on a few 700+ mile trips with it, but, for the most part, I don’t see the point in just putting highway miles on it. I’d rather be in something I’m not worried about if its going to break or if I’m going to have to park in some shitty spot. Rental car or 3 is cheaper and less stressful. I actually get more enjoyment out of driving it less; meaning each time I drive it is more special . It’s not like I don’t drive it, I’ve averaged ~7.5k miles per year since i’ve had it.
